It may seem mysterious, but a few simple maintenance tasks can make your refrigerator last longer and run more efficiently. Here’s what you should do.
The most frequent culprit that reduces energy efficiency and shortens the life of your fridge is dirty condenser coils. At least every three months use a vacuum or broom to remove dust build-up from the coils. The other big efficiency is problems with refrigerator gaskets on the refrigerator and freezer doors. Check for cracks or damaged spots and clean them with vinegar solution to reduce mildew. Finally, most refrigerators rely on a drain hole and drip pan to remove condensation. Over time, this pan gets dirty. Remove any accumulated “gunk” and scrub out the pan! It’s that easy.
A few other routine checks can keep your fridge in top condition:
- Change the water filter for your water dispense every six months..
- Make sure your fridge is level.
- Keep your fridge set between 37 and 40℉. Set the freezer at 0℉.
